Wesley Heirs: Loving, Learning, and Living

“This is a very caring, loving group that supports each other as we share ministries and memories.” – Rev. Mark Stewart, President of Wesley Heirs Executive Board

Wesley Heirs was founded in 1983 as an AWF Conference ministry for retired ministers and their spouses. Members enjoy fellowship gatherings surrounded by like-minded peers with similar history and life experiences twice a year at Blue Lake United Methodist Camp and annually at Annual Conference. The motto “Love, Learn, and Live” is embodied at each Blue Lake gathering as members enjoy a time of renewal, inspiration, and information. Group activities always include games, entertainment, fellowship meals, communion, worship, a Memorial Celebration Service, and speakers who cover a variety of topics (including news and updates within the AWF Conference and the church).

“Since I now reside outside the bounds of the conference, I did not make it to a gathering until March 2011 after the death of my wife. I have never experienced more love and support than I received at that gathering and since. I have now made 19 straight gatherings to Blue Lake, and now my son comes with me. For me, the music and choir are a great part of our time together as well as remembering and celebrating all those I have served with who have gone home the previous 6 months.” – Rev. Mark Stewart

Terri Turner, UM Foundation Executive Director, was invited as a guest speaker to the March 2020 gathering to review current investments held through the Foundation and discuss a variety of giving options (including Charitable Gift Annuities and IRA gifts through a Qualified Charitable Distribution [QCD]). These new giving avenues offer opportunities for Wesley Heirs to continue growing their funds and to annually support Blue Lake, Sunshine Camp, Discovery Camp, the UM Foundation, and their bi-annual gatherings.
