Speakers

Lovett H. Weems

Lovett H. Weems, Jr., is distinguished professor of church leadership emeritus and senior consultant of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. Weems was the founding director of the Lewis Center in 2003, coming to the position after eighteen years as president of Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri. A native of Mississippi, he was a local church pastor in that state for many years. The is the author of many books of which the most recent are The Right Questions for Church Leaders, Sustaining while Disrupting: The Challenge of Congregational Innovation (with Doug Powe), and Generosity, Stewardship, and Abundance: A Transformational Guide to Church Finance (with Ann A. Michel).

 

Ann A. Michel

Dr. Ann A. Michel is a seminary-educated layperson who has served in professional ministry since 1994. She recently retired from the staff of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership where she served for 20 years, first as Associate Director and later as a Senior Consultant and aa co-editor of the Lewis Center’s online newsletter, Leading Ideas. She has also taught at Wesley Theological Seminary in the areas of leadership and stewardship. She has written or co-written several books, including Synergy: A Leadership Guide for Church Staff and Volunteers (Abingdon Press, 2017) and Generosity Stewardship and Abundance (Rowman and Littlefield, 2021) with Lovett H. Weems, Jr.

 



Terri Turner, Foundation Executive Director

Terri Turner has been the Executive Director of the Foundation since 1991, currently overseeing over $132 million in assets for churches. A graduate of Florida State University, Terri spent 13 years in the investment brokerage business and finds her expertise as a financial consultant very helpful in counseling with church members and churches. Responsibilities with the Foundation include overseeing the administration and investment management of permanent gifts and church funds as well as developing programs throughout the conference to encourage good stewardship of God’s gifts. Terri is an active member of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of United Methodist Foundations where she has served as President and is active nationally in Foundation work as a member of the National Association of United Methodist Foundations. Terri and her family are members of FUMC in Dothan, AL.
